PTA Reflection Winners:

Students throughout the district were honored by PTA, the School Board, and Superintendent DeLeon for their participation in and winning the PTA Reflections art competition.

Athletics Recognition:

Ninth grade, GHS student, Samantha S. was recognized at the school board meeting on Monday for her exceptional performance in wrestling. Considering she has only been wrestling for 7 months, she had an outstanding record of 24-5 earning her the title of league champion, CIF MVP, and a coveted spot in the state competition. Keep up the good work Sam!

2022 Woman of the Year for Education:

Congratulations to Dr. Penelope DeLeon, Superintendent, for being named by Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio’s office as the 2022 Woman of the Year for Education for the 48th Assembly District.

Tartan Festival:

Glendora families enjoyed hearing beautiful music performed by secondary orchestra students at last Friday’s Tartan Festival. We appreciate the hard work of our music instructors, staff, and especially, our students.

Expanding Partnerships to Benefit Students: Citrus College Summer Connection (CCSC) Program:

At the board meeting on Monday night, Board President Merkley, Penelope DeLeon Superintendent, Citrus College Area Trustee Dr. Rasmussen, and Superintendent/President Dr. Schulz formalized the partnership allowing our students to participate in the CCSC. Participating students will have support for applying and registering for Citrus College while taking traditional summer school courses taught by GUSD teachers at Glendora High School.

End of the Quarter (middle and high schools only): 

Today marked the end of the third quarter for middle and high school students. With one quarter left in the school year, we want to encourage all students to participate in the fun and engaging activities your school is planning and continue to work hard every day in class.  If your student is in need of additional academic or emotional support, please contact your student’s teacher, counselor, or Student Support Specialist.

Glendora High School Accreditation (WASC) Visit:       

On Monday evening, a team of teachers, counselors, and administrators from GHS presented a preview of their WASC self-study report to the Trustees and community.  This information will be presented to a visiting committee of educational leaders coming to the school next week. Our District is confident in GHS’s preparation and eager to highlight our students’ excellence as well.

State Testing:

Each year, students in grades three through eight and high school participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). This year, students will take the following test(s), depending on their grade level:

  • Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades three through eight, and grade eleven
  • California Science Test (CAST) in grades five, eight, eleven, and twelve

Your student will be taking these assessments between April 4 and June 10, 2022.  Each school will send more detailed information on your student’s testing schedule.

Young Scholars Symposium:

On Tuesday night GUSD and Charter Oak USD co-hosted the Young Scholars Symposium to provide homeless and foster youth and their parents/guardians with access to several local and regional partners whose purpose is to support their academic and emotional success. It was a wonderful evening with over 100 people in attendance including students, families, partners, and community members. Click HERE to view a short video of the event.

GUSD Nutrition Services (High School Only):

The Nutrition Services Department will now reinstate the use of the pin pad at Glendora High School starting during the month of March 2022. For more information click HERE.  

Volunteers:

Volunteers will be allowed on campus on Monday, March 21. Parents/guardians who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to communicate with their child’s teacher prior to completing the volunteer process. Then, volunteers must obtain and complete an application from the weekly update, school website, or school office, have a valid TB test, and medical clearance aligned with all public health orders. GATE Testing:

According to Penelope DeLeon, Superintendent, the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) test will be administered to interested students in grades 2-5 on Saturday, April 2,  April 23, or April 30. Each date will have two testing sessions, 1:00-2:30 pm or 2:45-4:15 pm. Please click HERE to sign-up for a date and time. Parents/guardians will receive an email with additional information closer to the date that they select on the form.

COVID UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Vaccine Clinic:

GUSD will be hosting a vaccine clinic in Room 2 at the Williams Educational Center, 301 S. Lorraine Ave. Glendora, CA 91741, on, April 8, April 29, and May 20 from 2:00-4:15 pm. Clinics are appointment-based. Please email Jackierojas@glendora.k12.ca.us if you have any questions.  Click HERE to schedule an appointment. Clinics may be changed based on signups and vaccine supply.

How to Submit Student COVID Test Results?

Please follow the directions below to securely submit a HIPAA-compliant test result.

  1. Whenever possible, register your home test by using the digital (app-based) platform for test verification. This often includes scanning a barcode for certain brands of self-tests. See your home test kit for directions.
  2. Write the name and date on the test card results.
  3. Submit a picture of test results using one of the methods below.

Using your phone (recommended): Please scan the QR code below with your phone’s camera application. The form will prompt you to take a picture of the negative test.

State Vaccine Mandate Update:

On October 1, 2021, the California Governor announced the mandate of Covid vaccination for students in all California schools pending full FDA approval. Click HERE to get more information from the CDE and HERE for the press release. GUSD staff continues to monitor the state legislature’s actions related to students and staff. At this time, we have found no news about the predicted vaccination mandate.
